Candy Corn Cupcakes

Happy Almost Halloween! For one of my classes yesterday we had a potluck. And since I have an overwhelming number of Halloween cupcake wrappers (and still do), I decided to make something festive. I've seen these around the web and decided to give my hand at it. I was originally going to make the cake from scratch, but after working all morning and studying for my midterm all afternoon, I opted with a box mix. This was seriously the first box mix I've used in ages. I was going to make my own frosting, at least. The frosting I chose was a Honey Buttercream, because I wanted to make these special. And since candy corn are infused with honey, I thought hey! Well, it was a disaster and it tasted like a pot of... butter. It was disgusting.

Luckily I had a container of vanilla frosting on hand, so I colored it, added some honey to that, and got these babies done! They went over well and were adorable.

But anyway, this isn't all this post is about. Because these are festive cupcakes and because all holidays need a little cupcake love I am giving away one copy of the cupcake cookbook "Cupcakes Year-Round". It has so many fabulous ideas of festive cupcakes to make, from Halloween spiders to cupcakes that resemble a beach!

If you want to win the copy of this book comment by November 4th and let me know what your favorite holiday or season is, and what you think the best cupcake would be for the occassion! I will pick the winner using a random number generator. Leave your email, so that if you win I can get in touch with you!

As far as cupcakes go I recently make a yummy pumpkin cupcake and I put a piece of chocolate chip pecan pie in it before I baked it...so yummy no icing needed, but if you want it cream cheese icing!

love Valentine's Day! I love all the bake goods made for the holiday. I really like when you are able to make an object using cup cakes. I love when bakeries make a heart using cupcakes.

I love Halloween. And Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, Easter, birthdays, the Fourth of July...

Really, I love any holiday because I can have an excuse to bake something!

My favorite kind of cupcake probably has to be a mini version of a Boston Creme Pie. DELICIOUS. But I love making so many different kinds--I recently made rainbow cupcakes with a whole bunch of different layers and they were SUPER fun to make.

That cupcake looks amazing. I want to reach out and swipe a fingerful of frosting!:)

My favourite holiday is Shavuot, which is a Jewish holiday where we celebrate G-d giving the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai. It's traditional to eat a lot of dairy foods (which I love!!!) and many people affectionately refer to Shavuot as "the cheesecake holiday".

I would make chocolate cheesecake cupcakes with a thick chocolate frosting, decorated with some edible gold beads.

I'd have to say, that candy corn cupcake is one of the cutest ideas I've seen in a long time. It's simple yet looks amazing!
I haven't made cupcakes since I was a child, and I was only helping my mother then. Haha!
My favorite holiday is definitely Beltane, though I'm far from Pagan. I love the idea of celebrating the beginning of spring! When spring rolls around again, I plan to make a vanilla cupcake with dyed green cream cheese frosting and little blue forget-me-not flower designs. Flowers are too cute for an addition to cupcakes!

I absolutely adore Thanksgiving. So much food, what's not to love?

And I have to say, I'm fond of the classics: I'll take a straight up vanilla cupcake with mounds of frosting on top anyday!

My favorite holiday is Mardi Gras.

If I was going to make a cupcake for the season I'd have to pay homage to the traditional Mardi Gras pastry: the king cake.

I'd make a heavier cinnamon flavored cupcake. White powdered sugar icing with colored sugar decoration (gold, green and purple of course). I'd also place a novelty baby on top of at least one in the batch if not at all.
